ELIX gives the opportunity to young people from Greece to work voluntarily in whichever country of Europe as part of the Program of European Voluntary Service (EVS). In Greece, the program is coordinated by the General Secretariat for Youth, with which ELIX cooperates as a recognized organization of hosting and sending volunteers.
EVS is not a travel program, but a learning procedure, targeting the personal and professional development of the volunteer. It cultivates active citizens and contributes to solidarity and mutual understanding between young people.
There is a great variety of voluntary work: manual labour, art or cultural programs, cross-cultural activities for social integration and elimination of racism and social exclusion, supply of help to persons with special needs or senior citizens, participation in the operation of youth centres in degraded areas and suburbs, entertainment activities and supply of consultancy services to unemployed or to people with social difficulties, creative activities with children, participation in programs combating environmental pollution, landscaping, creating public gardens etc.
EVS programs are organized throughout the whole year and young people aged 18 to 30 years can participate. The participation period in the program ranges from 2 to 12 months.
• the program covers
- metadata and cultural training before your departure and during your stay at the program
- the tickets of transition to and return from your program
- accommodation, food and a monthly allowance between 90-110 €
- health security for the duration of the voluntary service
- award of certificate which certifies your participation in the program
- support after your return for the exploitation of your experience.
Note: In the case of handicapped or disabled people, there is the possibility of covering an escort or other expenses.
It is very difficult for two participants from the same country to be in the same program together, as the receiving organizations prefer to keep a variety and balance between participants. As a result, it is very difficult for two friends to be accepted together in the same program, even if they ask so in the application.
Furthermore, it is important that the participation procedure could last up to 6-8 months. The program has specific dates of application (01/02 - 01/04 - 01/06 - 01/09 - 01/11) and before the specified date, preparation work of at least 3 months is required in order to find an available program of the volunteer’s liking, to prepare the necessary documents etc.
Therefore, if you are interested in becoming a volunteer for EVS the procedure you have to go through is the following:
Visit the following webpage: http://ec.europa.eu/youth/evs/aod/hei_en.cfm so that you can get an idea about the programs (attention, the programs there are the approved ones, not the available ones)
Declare some hours that you will be available to offer voluntary work to our organization before you are sent to a program
