Volunteering

PARTNER:
ELIX will organize two workcamps within the programme "NEON CHORA" with the cooperation of 4 different Greek social organizations. The programme is funded by the Bodossaki Foundation.and the program frame "We are all Citizens" - eea Grants.  These workcamps aim to support young people socially disadvantaged and/or of migrant background by providing them the opportunity to spend a quality time through creative activities and give them a chance to address their own issues in an original way.

WORK
Volunteers participating in these two workcamps will work together with young people coming from socially disadvantaged background (15-22 years old) and will think of, prepare and create a festival for young people in the city centre of Athens. Participants will organize actions for the wider public of the Support centre for young people (KYN) which will include different activities, workshops, artistic events, games, cross cultural education and much more. The workcamp will close with neon chora 3the festival days.

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD
Volunteers will be accommodated in a public school. The accommodation is basic but adequate; volunteers will sleep on the floor in the classrooms of the school. Sleeping bags are necessary. There are toilets, showers and cooking facilities at the school. Everyday two different volunteers from the group, in shifts, will be responsible for maintaining the group accommodation place clean, as well as for the preparation of all the meals for the group of volunteers.

LOCATION & LEISURE TIME
Athens and its suburbs - Athens is a city with glorious history and culture that gave birth to democracy, arts and science and has been worshipped by gods and people, a magical city and the enchanting capital of Greece. The most important civilization of ancient world flourished in Athens and relives through some of the world’s most formidable edifices. Athens is situated in the prefecture of Attica and extends to the peninsula that reaches up to Central Greece. It is surrounded by the mountains Ymytos, Pendeli and Parnitha, northwards and eastwards, and the Saronic Gulf southwards and westwards. The sun is shining over Athens all year round. During summer the city is much quieter as the majority of its inhabitants leave for their summer vacations.
In their free time, participants will have the opportunity to get in touch with the everyday life of the city; they may attend local events (concerts, festival, performances, etc.). Volunteers will discuss their free time activities with their camp leaders; together they are going to organize excursions and visits around the
city.
