ELIX01, Neon Chora II Recycling for Good, 20/03/16 - 02/04/16, MANU/SOCI (for 15 volunteers)
PARTNER:
NEON CHORA is a project implemented with the cooperation of four different Greek social organizations supported and funded by the Bodossaki Foundation. Within this long term programme, ELIX is organising two workcamps aiming to support young people that are socially disadvantaged or coming from a migrant background. ELIX already organised the first workcamp in July 2015 in the form of a festival and invites you to be part of the second one that we present below.
WORK:
Volunteers will work on pieces of furniture and home appliances that need repairs, refinish or refurbish the pieces (eg. chairs, tables, sofa etc.), and prepare broken items and clean them (eg. washing machine, mixers etc.) in order to be functional and equip the houses of families that are threatened by the crisis. Volunteers might be asked to help collecting and transporting the pieces of furniture and home appliances to the workshop where they will work. The short term impact of our activities will be the support of a number of households that are facing a series of difficulties, though the long term will be to set the basis for a social economy with solidarity. With the renovated housing material we will support the needs of social structures or families around the area of Kypseli, as it is in this area that the youth center is focusing its actions. Additionally volunteers will participate in actions to create awareness of the project and the families in need. Technical leaders will support the volunteers by giving instructions, showing and providing the tools, while trained leaders of ELIX will be responsible for the group life.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD:
Volunteers will be accommodated in the centre of Athens. Details will follow in the next month. The preparation of all the meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the cleaning of the common spaces will be done by different volunteers every day (in shifts).
