Volunteering

The Municipality of Thermo has a network of ancient footpaths spreading in the mountain village of Amvrakia, used widely by locals, tourists as well as hikers. The two workcamps “Sustainable paths” aim at supporting the building of new paths and preserving the environment in order to enhance local sustainability.

Under the guidance of two local craftsmen, your supervisors, you will help to clean parts of rural spaces where the danger of fire is high. Furthermore, you will clean, highlight, preserve and reconstruct the ancient footpaths in and around the village. You will also help to clean the local system of water supply in order to ensure better quality for drinking water in the village.

About the accommodation and the food
You will be hosted in the municipal school of Amvrakia, with showers (with hot water), three rooms and equipped kitchen but no WIFI-connection. You will sleep on the floor (sleeping bags and carry mats are necessary). Foot distance between the accommodation and your working place. Food will be provided, and meals will be prepared, in shifts, by you.

Amvrakia and your leisure time
Amvrakia is a little village (750m altitude) in the Southwest part of Greece, surrounded by picturesque villages and monasteries. You will find there a small café and have the possibility to go swimming. Amvrakia is just half an hour distant from the town of Thermo (360m) and its archeological museum. Thermo with its unspoiled, traditional beauty is situated just 3 km from the lake Trihonida, the largest lake in Greece which offers unforgettable views.
