The two workcamps “This Summer is Ours” in Elelfsina aim to support children and young people with disabilities, by providing them the opportunity to spend a quality summer time through creative activities.

What kind of work
You will work with children, teenagers and young people (from 10 to 29 years old) with mental and physical disabilities: you will support the educational activities fixed by the pedagogues (athletic activities, workshops, artistic events, theatrical plays and much more) or even implement your own ideas of activities.
About the accommodation and the food
You will stay in a spacious school for children and young people with disabilities in the outskirts of Elelsina. You will sleep on the floor of the classrooms (sleeping bags and carry mats are necessary). The accommodation will be basic but adequate. There will be toilets, showers, a big yard, cooking facilities but you will not find hot water in the showers or internet Wi-Fi.
Food will be provided, and meals will be prepared, in shifts, by you.
Elefsina and your leisure time
Elefsina is a Greek town and municipality in West Attica, situated about 20 km from Athens down town. Elefsina is best known for having been the site of the Eleusinian Mysteries, one of the most famous religious events of the ancient Greek religion, and the birthplace of Aeschylus, one of the three great tragedians of antiquity. Today is a major industrial center (25.863 inhabitants).
The school is in the outskirts of the city, but the center is reachable by bus in 10 minutes. There is a bus connection between Elefsina, Athens and Piraeus. You will have many places around to visit in your free time, such as the Archeological Museum and the site of Eleusis, Athens, Piraeus and the island of Salamina.
The volunteer profile
You must enjoy working with children, teenagers and young people with mental and physical disabilities. Games, songs, instruments and crafting ideas are more than welcome. Please, do not forget to write a motivation letter with your ideas and the reasons that made you apply for this specific camp!
All accepted volunteers have to provide ELIX with the original Certificate of Good Conduct.
