Campaigns and Networking

The campaign for clean coastal areas #EUBeachCleanup started on August 18, 2021 and has already raised the awareness of many Agencies, Municipalities, as well as volunteers. Since then, many similar events have been organized, both in coastal and inland areas around the world.

As he High Representative of the European Union Mr. Josep Borel had stated : "Our actions affect our oceans. It's a matter of choice: either we continue to pollute our oceans with waste, or we take action and clean up our seas. The #EUBeachCleanup initiative is a great individual and collective action by volunteers around the world to keep the shores clean and to protect marine life. There is an urgent need for everyone to contribute to the restoration of our planet."

This year, the campaign is organized by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, together with the United Nations. The purpose is to increase citizens' awareness of marine pollution and information about the dangers that threaten water resources, locally and globally. Every year, millions of tons of waste end up in the ocean with direct and deadly effects on wildlife. Marine pollution starts on land and is one of the main causes of marine biodiversity loss. It is therefore imperative to take action and establish groundbreaking measures to protect our seas and oceans. Environmental protection has always been one of the main pillars of ELIX's operation, so our Organization invites you to be part of this campaign, participating in a very special action, this Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Votsalakia beach in Piraeus.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Piraeus, ELIX and its volunteers will:

1. protect marine animals

2. help preserve the natural environment

3. remove toxic chemicals from the water

4. operate for the benefit of the local community

5. provide a safer environment

6. socialize with other volunteers and citizens

We are waiting for you all on Saturday, September 16, 2023 (meeting at 9.45 in the morning at the Summer Cinema "Votsalakia") to realize the challenge and make a positive impact for our shores together!
