- Type of event: Citizens action trainin
- Dates: 27 -28 April 2013
- Organisation: CBB
- Country: Belgium
- City: Marche-en-Femme
Description of the event:
CBB organized a leadership seminar for 25 people in Marche-en-Femme, Belgium from 27 to 28 April 2013. This seminar lasted for 2 days and its goal was to inform and teach the future leaders of the volunteering project what is a successful project and what it takes to organize one.
The ultimate goal of this citizens action is that the participants not only take part in a voluntary project organized by someone else, but also that they prepare by themselves one project. CBB wished to make its participants active citizens in every meaning of the word!! They were encouraged to prepare a project even with the smallest support in material and finances, as every beginning is difficult, but also, each action counts, no matter how small it might me, as it perhaps doesn't directly change the "big picture", but it changes something in the volunteers making them better citizens, and directly by that influencing the local community.
There were examples of different successful projects shown and explained, the participants had the opportunity to ask questions from the first hand and to seek advice to their own planned projects. The group was often divided in smaller groups, so it was easier for them to acquire new knowledge, methodologies and tools which they need in their future work as "more active citizens".
The participants also learned how to work in groups, how to manage a group of volunteers, how motivate other potential volunteers and keep their spirits high during a project, how to search for funds and make bigger impact in the local community etc.
At the end of this 2 days seminar the participants were encouraged to take part in a small voluntary action and work with their own hands in a new environment and on a type of project that they have never worked.
