Education and Training

- Type of event: Citizens Action

- Dates: 10 - 11 May

- Organisation: IBG

- Country: Germany

- City: Ehningen

German organization IBG on the 10th and the 11th of May 2013 organized 2 days local action with the title "Open Spaces for Young People" in Ehningen, Germany. This event involved 25 people of which the majority were locals, and a few foreign citizens. As the group was international the "working languages" were both German and English, which definitely enriched the programme and gave a new perspective to all of the participants.

The facilitators started the event with the presentation of the EC4LA programme, its importance and the contribution of IBG in the programme. Through this local action day IBG wished to empower young people and provide them with the open space for their development as European citizens.

The discussions were held in smaller and bigger groups and their main topic was opening the spaces for young people through active participation and local volunteering. The participants were exchanging their experiences and ideas, thus gaining inspiration and ideas for their future projects in their local communities.

Foreign participants gave great examples on how their countries support active citizenship and how do they stimulate young people to engage in the community through volunteering, ensuring that the young people and local communities are in gain of this process.

As part of the citizens action the participants in Ehningen went outside to learn by firsthand on how to use tools, help and make impact in the local community. They worked in the garden of a local education centre for young people

At the last evening the participants gathered at the garden which they previously worked in, and exchanged their impressions and experiences of the 2 days seminar.
