Perämeri National Park, Tornio, Lapland (Finland), 10-16.6.2012

5 international volunteers met there with local people to spend a week and help local people to clean the sea surrounding. Sustainability is a vital core value to Allianssi Youth Exchanges, moreover in such a protected and wild area as Lapland is!

The project consisted of cheerful camping and volunteer work in the beautiful setting of Perämeri National Park while tidying and cleaning of the coastal archipelago (i.e. cleaning the coastline, cutting bushes, carrying wood and cleaning paths). The participants of the project were both local and foreign volunteers which gave both of the groups the possibility to experience the intercultural life in addition to being part of the local community. For all of them (volunteers and locals), this experience based on sharing was a way to experiment local action that had a worldwide impact.

The camp was organized in cooperation with Metsähallitus (a state-owned organisation that manages forest and water areas), Tornion Meripelastusseura (a member of the Finnish Lifeboat Institution) and the Keep Lapland Tidy - a registered association
