Education and Training

ELIX is actively participating in the international Campaign that is coordinated by CCIVS with the title Raising Voice – Raising Peace. The campaign is focusing in the following 4 thematics:

1. Rights of Migrant people, Refugees, and to Citizenship;
2. Rights on Gender,
3. Sexuality and Own Body;
4. Rights to Health, Housing and Food.

In accordance to that, ELIX is involved in the framework of activities of the project “Young Activists for Peace – Welcome Refugees” that is coordinated by ICJA Germany.

During this project we are implementing a series of training courses and meetings during which the staff and our volunteers are participating and contributing.

Aim of these activities is to understand the causes of the creation of the refugee flows, the dangers that the people who have to face the crisis have to face but also the creation of new activities and initiatives that will contribute and support the refugees.

From 4 to 11 of October 2016, ELIX is organizing a Training Course with title “YOUthWORKs for Peace” which takes place in Athens.

This Training Course involves 25 participants who actively took part in the project “Young Activists for Peace – Welcome Refugees” and in other relevant youth exchanges and local activities with the aim to evaluate and assess the results of these but also to acquire further competences in peace building, conflict resolution and intercultural dialogue.

Objectives:
- To evaluate and assess their learning process from the activities they organized with young people and children during the summer of 2016,erasmus plus with ELIX
- To learn more about the training concept “Young people as agents of peace” used in the youth exchanges 2016 and other concepts which deal with conflict resolution and peace building,
- To discover and practice innovative methods to be used in future youth work activities at local, national and international levels and adapting them to the participants own work contexts,
- To share tools and practices to promote intercultural dialogue and peace, focusing on key aspects of youth projects, such as project management, conflict management and inter-cultural learning,
- To reflect about how young people could be involved in voluntary service projects to support refugees (i.e. with EVS) and what would be the challenges and benefits of such projects,
- To jointly develop non formal learning activities for youth groups involving refugees and other sensitive groups of young people for summer 2017.

A variety of interactive methods and techniques will be used such as small/big group work, simulation exercises, debates, theoretical input and practical training sessions, excursions and project visits. Participants will have the opportunity to visit national organizations working in the front line with refugees and to better understand from firsthand their situation and the challenges they and the ones who support them have to face. Participants will have the chance to analyze the challenges and benefits of welcoming refugees in each participating country and for European Union as a whole.
