ELIX – Conservation Volunteers Greece launches a new project titled “V.I.P. – Volunteering is Possible” that has been approved for funding and will be financially supported by the Erasmus+ programme.
This project aims to reach young people with fewer opportunities who are often excluded from mobility programmes and to provide them with the opportunity to equally participate.
More specifically the project will involve young people who are currently facing:
- Economic obstacles: people with a low standard of living, low income, young people in long-term unemployment or poverty;
- Educational difficulties: young people with learning difficulties, early school leavers, lower qualified persons, young people with poor school performance etc.
- Cultural differences: immigrants or refugees or descendants from immigrant or refugee families; people belonging to a national or ethnic minority; people with linguistic adaptation and cultural inclusion difficulties.
- Geographical obstacles: people from remote or rural areas; people living in small islands or in peripheral regions; people from less serviced areas (limited public transport, poor facilities).
In this context, ELIX in cooperation with 8 international partners from Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, Estonia and Poland will be
implementing the project that will promote international mobility for 22 young volunteers. During the summer, 11 young people residing in Greece will have the chance to participate in an international voluntary service project (workcamp) in one of the above-mentioned countries while 11 young people from other European countries will join workcamps of ELIX.
Through their participation in a workcamp, young participants will have the chance:
• To improve skills and competences (communication in English, open mindedness, self-confidence) that can be used in their personal and professional development.
• To develop cultural sensitivity skills and confront stereotypes, prejudices, discrimination and inequality.
• To become active citizens through participation in democratic processes while living and working with others on commonly agreed goals and procedures
