Discover the story of Alejandra, who took part in an ELIX workcamp:

“Hello, my name is Alejandra Arévalo and I am an architecture student from Colombia.
I had the opportunity to participate in a two-week workcamp at Amvrakia (Greece) in July 2019.

Read the testimony of Andrea, who came from Italy to take part in the second session of the ELIX workcamp in Amvrakia.

“During Summer 2019, I took part in the workcamp “Sustainable Paths in Amvrakia" organised by ELIX. For me, this was the best opportunity to visit Greece and see the not so tourist parts of this country.

The Municipality of Thermo has a network of ancient footpaths spreading in the mountain village of Amvrakia, used widely by locals, tourists as well as hikers. The two workcamps “Sustainable paths” aim at supporting the building of new paths and preserving the environment in order to enhance local sustainability.

My name is Ryoko Tsukada. I am 20 years old from Japan.

I am studying about foreign countries’ cultures and developing countries’ issues at my university. Especially I am interested in helping people who face difficulties so I often volunteer at children’s nursing home, have been to some places which are suffered from the Great East Japan’s earthquake and visited Malaysia, Philippines and Myanmar to research their difficult situation.

Christopher arrived from Austria to Athens to join ELIX spring Voluntary Workcamp "Neon Chora II Recycling for Good" from 20th of March till 2nd of April 2016.

The aim of this voluntary programme was to rebuild and reuse old furniture which was not any more in use and after to distribute them to families which face difficulties because of the economic crisis.

The project was funded by eea Grants – “We are all Citizens” throw the Bodossaki Foundation in Greece.

My name is Justyna, I'm 23 y.o. from Warsaw. I did my bachelor degree in Journalism, now I'm doing my second degree in Iberian Studies. I like listening to the music (Blur is my favourite band) and reading books (I love Haruki Murakami and good reportage books).

ELIX01, Neon Chora II Recycling for Good, 20/03/16 - 02/04/16, MANU/SOCI (for 15 volunteers)

NEON CHORA is a project implemented with the cooperation of four different Greek social organizations supported and funded by the Bodossaki Foundation. Within this long term programme, ELIX is organising two workcamps aiming to support young people that are socially disadvantaged or coming from a migrant background. ELIX already organised the first workcamp in July 2015 in the form of a festival and invites you to be part of the second one that we present below.

PARTNER: This project is a follow-up in ELIX's involvement in this area of Greece, the site in which the spirit of the Olympic Games was born. ELIX has organized quite a number of projects around the renowned archaeological site since 2003, in cooperation with a local group, the "Cultural and Environmental Association of Ancient Olympia", recognizing the value of community service.

PARTNER
This project is organized by a local environmental group "Naturalist & Cultural Club of Ancient Olympia" which is active in this area since 2005. With the cooperation with this group ELIX is regularly organizing tree planting projects and maintenance of the footpaths for visitors of Olympia.

Yet another year, volunteers of ELIX will be present in Ancient Olympia in order to work at the hill of Galani. After the devastating fires of 2007 ELIX organized several ecological actions, last year’s focus lying on the cleaning and maintenance of the footpaths of the hill.

ELIX02 Workcamp took place at Andros island of Cyclades, from 23rd August till 9th of September 2012. Watch the video to see their impressing the work they did and the free time they enjoyed. The type of the WorkCamp was ENVI MANU.

Andros the island of beautiful beaches, fantastic landscapes, generous people and brilliant food. As I stepped off the ferry in Gavrio, I thought to myself “I 'm back to what I love doing best” that is spending weeks away in a foreign country living with people I don’t know and in different accommodation and interesting food while doing something interesting rather than being the typical tourist.

This year, in the context of the celebration of the European Year of Volunteering 2011, ELIX-Conservation Volunteers Greece will perform a series of actions, motivating people to participate actively in the society.

As part of the campaign Big GREEN Weekend which is coordinated by the network “Conservation Volunteers Alliance”, ELIX invites all of you to participate actively in the following activities!
