Λέμε όχι στην αναπηρία και στην απομόνωση λόγω αυτής! Βοηθάμε το συνάνθρωπο με νοητική υστέρηση, μοιράζουμε χαρά μέσω του παιχνιδιού. Το Project CHILDREN LIKE NO OTHER, με τον πολύ μεγάλο κοινωνικό αντίκτυπο, σε περιμένει!

Project and Work:
Go and meet children and young people who are left unseen in our society. Together, break down the barriers of disability and live an enriching human experience!
You will be welcomed in a medical-educational institute, the IME Maurice Chantelauze, located a few hundred metres from the small town of La Chaise-Dieu. This institute welcomes children and teenagers with intellectual disabilities. You will work alongside them throughout the project, the first week with the 17 to 21 year olds and the second week with the children and their educators.
Your objective will be to create a large play and sports course in the park of the IME. To do so, you will build wooden modules of different sizes, thinking about how they can be adapted for the children of the Institute. This mobility course will allow them to develop their motor skills and practice physical activity in a fun way. You will spend about 30 hours per week on this workcamp. Alongside a technical camp leader, these missions will allow you to familiarize yourself with or improve your handling of tools and to participate in various manual tasks.
We invite you to contribute to this project with a strong social vocation!
Accommodation and food:
You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay.
You will be accommodated on site in one of the Institute's buildings, which will be reserved for your group. Accommodation is in twin rooms, with toilets and showers in the corridor. You will have a kitchen, a dining room and activity rooms for recreation.
The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals, prioritizing products from the market and local producers. WIFI and washing machine available on site.
Partner:
This is the first project that will take place in this Institute.
Located in the town of La Chaise-Dieu, the IME Maurice Chantelauze is managed by the PEP 43 association, whose actions are guided by the values of solidarity, equality and citizenship. It manages several establishments for people with disabilities and thus participates in the construction of a more inclusive, enlightened and supportive society.
The IME welcomes about fifty children and teenagers with intellectual disabilities who, for this reason, cannot attend a traditional school. You will discover their world alongside a multidisciplinary team (director, psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, educators) who work hard every day to promote the development and maximum autonomy of the children in their care.
The children are waiting for you with a little shyness and a lot of impatience!
Location and leisure:
If you suffer from the heat in summer, this workcamp is for you!
Located 2 hours 15 minutes from Lyon and 1 hour 30 minutes from Clermont-Ferrand, two thirds of the area are covered by a forest with exceptional flora. The medieval village of La Chaise-Dieu, with 700 inhabitants, is nestled on a promontory at an altitude of 1100 metres, a real haven of coolness in summer. In the heart of the town, stroll through the streets where houses with medieval facades house craftsmen and cultural pubs. Here, the town has the largest high-altitude abbey in Europe, with its amazing echo chamber!
The village is surrounded by lakes: The La Tour lake has a small beach for swimming with a pontoon, picnic tables under the nearby pine forest, a volleyball court... Pedal boats can be rented at the “Guinguette pub”, whose terrace is very pleasant in the summer. Numerous hiking trails allow you to discover the Livradois-Forez Natural Park.
Special requirements and remarks:
During this workcamp you will be working with mentally disabled children and young people. We expect you to be responsible and respectful and to adapt to the needs of residents.
For sleeping, please bring a bed sheet and a sleeping bag. Bring work clothes, walking boots and a backpack. You can also bring recipes from your home country, musical instruments and games. You will get around by foot, car and punctually in minibus.

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
This project is supported by the program European Solidarity Corps (ESC) for young people between 18 and 30 years. It is open to all volunteers that fit the ESC criteria.
The participation to the ESC volunteering teams is subjects to several principles and conditions, presented on the ESC webpage: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity/mission_en
- volunteers do not have to pay any fee (not sending, nor participation fee) to attend the project and will receive a financial support for their travel, according to a maximum amount established in accordance with their travel distance and upon the presentation of original tickets;
- volunteers need to enrol in the PASS, the ESC Portal; then Concordia France will organise their matching, on the online system, with the volunteering project;
- volunteers will receive pocket money, calculated on basis of 6€/day, once they arrive on the project in France;
- volunteers will have to complete a participation report, submitted online through the portal.
Time and directions to Meeting Place:
The meeting point is at the train station of DARSAC at the end of the afternoon on th e4th of August. The exact meeting time will be given with the infosheet which will be sent at the latest 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp. DARSAC is a small train station served by three trains per day. There are three ways to get to DARSAC, via Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon or Puy-en-Velay. From Paris, several trains leave to Clermont-Ferrand (from where you can then go to Darsac).
If possible, please consider using low-carbon emissions’ transportation (train and bus rather than airplane) for a sustainable international workcamp.
The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/
If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress free travel.
Closest airport: Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon or Paris airport.
