BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT
A right is a claim which is justified. Human Rights, however, are different “super claims”, since they are not depending on others’ promises or guarantees. For instance, the right to life only depends on one thing: any person’s status of human being.

Human rights exist for all of us. How can we make use of them? It is clear that their existence is not enough to put an end to human rights violations, since we all know that these are committed every day, in every part of the globe.

Could we now have a look on the current situation of human rights in our countries?

Many young people feel that their acting power is decreasing. They know what they want, but they feel lost when they start thinking “What to do now?”. One of our main goals is to support them in developing their autonomy, emancipation and power of action, so as for them to be fully active in the society in which they are living. We want young people to be able to have a look on what is around, to focus on what is fine, but also on what is not acceptable. And, of course, we want young people to start thinking and acting on what they want to change. In this exchange we will direct the focus on Human Rights as a tool for young people to be the change they want to see in the world.

We want to organize this youth exchange because we want to give young people the possibility to have a look on what is happening in every participating country. We would like young people to explore diversity, to know the different backgrounds that each country has and to exchange about it.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

The Youth Exchange will be organized by following 3 main phases: Analyzing (What?), Reflecting (How?) and Experimenting (Let’s [rec]ord it!). We will use role playing games, exchanges and video making as techniques to go from personal analysis to group action.

1. WHAT?
During the Analyzing phase participants will think individually and as a group about their daily experience, focusing on what is not respecting human rights. They will establish a picture of what is needed here and now.

2. HOW?
The Reflecting phase will be the moment where young people will have the opportunity to reflect on the HOW: How can we be active? What can we do? Which means will we use? With the elements collected during the analyzing phase and after some expression and creative workshops, participants will create workshops in small groups. Each group will choose a specific Human Right, lead a workshop and conduct a reflection on it.

3. LET’S [REC]ORD IT!
During this phase of the project, participants will create videos on the Right to Move. They will get some basic knowledge on video making and editing under the guidance of professionals and will then make their own videos.

From here you can reach the city center in 25 minutes by tramway.

Participants will sleep in dormitory rooms for four people with bunk beds. Bed sheets and blankets are provided, but bring your own towel and toiletries.
There is no website for the accommodation place, but you can have a look at some picture by following this link: http://www.lemans-tourisme.com/fr/autres-hebergements/centre-du-guebernisson

LOCATION
Le Mans (143.000 inhabitants) is located in the West of France. It is the administrative center of the Sarthe department in the Pays de La Loire region (50 min from Paris). You will have time to discover the city. Le Mans is a beautiful art and historical city; it is the third one of the Pays de la Loire region when it comes to culture and tourism. The old city center is surrounded by Roman walls and the most recent renovation works organized to preserve the oldest parts of Le Mans have helped to enhance its local heritage. Two rivers cross the city which has been named one of France greenest cities. There we can find various parks and gardens, in addition to the two big forests bordering the city.
